VMnet0 error after updating the Windows 8 to windows 8.1

I have updated my windows from windows 8.0 to windows 8.1. Right after that, I figured out that none of the VMware workstation 9, return the following error:

“The network bridge on device VMnet0 is not running. The virtual machine will not be able to communicate with the host or with other machines on your network.

Failed to connect virtual device Ethernet0.”

Firstly I recommend you to check your network adaptors, in windows 8.1; the Network Bridge Connection protocol has been unchecked. Please check that, and then restart your VMware workstation. Although before I check that, I upgraded my VMware Workstation to version 10, and after I got the same error, I fix it from the VMware network adaptors.

To do so just go to control panel –> Network and sharing center –>change adaptor setting and then chose “VMware Network Adapter VMnet1 and VMnet8” and in their properties, check the Network Bridge Protocol.

If it didn’t work, I highly recommend to reinstall Network Bridge Protocol, it should solve the problem, other wise just reinstall the VMware Workstation. I hope it works on your system as it worked on mine.

    1. hi, you dont need to installed vmware bridge, it is already installed by default unless you have uninstalled it your self. in Run type, ncpa.cpl and go to your network connections, every adaptor that you can see there, wifi , ethernet ,vmnet1… if you go to their properties, you may see that vmware bridge is already there you may install/uninstall it.
before any action try to restore your vmware network connection to the default, most of the time, your problem will be solved. just go to the following directory and right click on vmnetcfg.exe, and open it with administrator privilege and once it opened, click on restore to the default.
      “C:\Program Files (x86)\VMware\VMware Workstation\”
      hope it helps you.
